AWR1642: mmwave sensor Evaluation Boards and Design Kits

Part Number: AWR1642

Hi,

Please refer page 45 of AWR1642 Datasheet which states that the maximum LVDS rate supported by LVDS is 900 Mbps, the next lower value being 600 Mbps.

My question is :

1)  I am planning to buy a AWR1642BOOST EVM along with DCA1000 EVM and this was advised by TI engineer also. If  I buy this combination, then I will have the limitation of acquiring the raw ADC data on the two LVDS lines up to 600 Mbps and hence I will not be able to fully benefit from 900 Mbps data rate that can be obtained from AWR1642. Please advise if my understanding is right.

2)  If I really need to exploit the full potential of AWR1642BOOST EVM LVDS raw ADC data rate of 900 Mbps, then probably, I need to buy TWS1400 EVM and for that I will also need to buy DevPack Board also.  Please advise if my understanding is right.

Best regards

Alper

  • Hello Alper,
The AWR1642 allows for a max of 6.25MSPS in complex mode. So the worst case output data rate will be 6.25 Msps * 16*2 bits (complex) * 4 (receivers) , which is 800 Mbits/sec (assuming no idle time, no inter frame time). 2 lane LVDS operating at 600mbps gives you a max transfer rate of 1200Mbits/sec, which is more than enough to transfer out the max data rate from 1642.
Also practically you would have some idle time in the chirps and some inter frame time. So practically the data rate would be much < 800Mbit/sec.

    Regards,
    Vivek
