AWR1642: AWR1642 EVMs (BOOST & ODS) and some minimum values

Part Number: AWR1642

Hi,

Please provide guidance on the following questions:

1) What is/are the difference(s) between AWR1642BOOST EVM and AWR1642BOOST-ODS EVM?
I understand that the only difference is between the antennae configuration. Please confirm that is my understanding right or not ? If not, then please advise what is/are the difference(s) between the above two EVMs?
Can I run all those labs and demos on AWR1642BOOST-ODS EVM which I can run on AWRBOOST EVM and vice versa ?

2) Please refer page 12 of AWR1642BOOST EVM User Guide (swru508b.pdf). I assume and understand that the antenna pattern in fig. 11 is applicable to each individual Transmitting antenna and same is applicable to each individual Receiving antenna as well. Please confirm that is my understanding is right or not?

3) Please refer page 13 of AWR1642BOOST-ODS EVM User Guide (spruik1.pdf). The antenna patterns for 4 receivers are shown in figure 11. Can you please provide antenna pattern for the 2 transmitters ?
The 4 receiver antennae patterns naturally look overall the same.
Can I assume that the 2 transmitter antennae will have the same antenna patterns ?

4) I have obtained the maximum upper limits for various parameters from TI documents and literature.
Can you please advise the minimum limits (if any) for the following parameters for AWR1642 on AWR1642BOOST EVM ?
a) Minimum Bandwidth (Max. BW is = 4 GHz)
b) Minimum IF Bandwidth (Max IF BW = 5 MHz)
c) Minimum Frequency Slope (S) (Max S = 100 MHz/us)
d) Minimum ADC sampling rate (Real, 1x complex and 2x complex) (Max Real Sampling rate = 12.5 Msps, Max Complex Sampling rate = 6.25 Msps)

Best regards

Alper

  • Hi Alper,

    Please find the answers below
    1)
Yes the only difference between the 2 EVMs is antenna design. Yes Antenna pattern for all TX and RX antennas are same.
Demo should work but angle estimation would not be correct, as it depends on Antenna placement.

    2) Yes your understanding is correct

    3) It should be same as RX Antennas as it uses the same antenna patch elements but I will check if I can get the exact pattern

    4)
    a) Minimum BW would be Minimum Samples (64) / Max Sampling rate(12.5msps) * Minimum Slope (could be 0) = 0
    b) Minimum IF BW would be 1.6MHz
    c) Minimum Frequency Slope = 0
    d) Minimum Sampling rate = 2msps

Above details are part of API documentation in SDK.

    Regards,
    Kaushal
