AWR1642BOOST: Error -1 when starting Sensor - Demo

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCA1000EVM, , UNIFLASH, MMWAVE-SDK

Hello,

i have a problem with the AWR1642BOOST in combination with the DCA1000EVM.

A few weeks ago, i received  a AWR1642BOOST Evalboard and tested it with the mmWave-SDK-2.1 Demo (and the Demo VIsualizer Tools from dev.ti.com) without any issues.

Last week, i received a nother AWR1642BOOST-Board in addition with the DCA1000EVM. After flashing the same BIN-File on the Board with the UniFlash Tool (without any problems), i can't get it to work with the Visualizer Tool.

After starting the Visualizer, entering the COM-Ports, connect the Device and choosing the right parameters in the head section, i try to load the config to the Board. This seems to work just fine - the console shows a variety of parameters followe by "done". The issue pops up, when the console shows "sensorStart". This command returns an "Error -1". The GUI then shows the Message:

"Error: Incorrect config reported by target. Hint: Change configuration and try again"

This makes no sense to me. I've not changed the preset setting and with the other board, this presets just work fine.

Till now, i've tried out the SDK-Versions 3, 2.1, 2 and the Visualizer Versions 2 and 3.

A colleague suggested me to use the SDK Version 1.2 since this was a common problem when he works with this Boards some time ago.

Is this a known issue to you? Is the SDK-Version 1.2 still available? If yes: where can i download it? I've searching it for a while without any succes.

Really looking forward for your help.

Greetings Tony

  • Hello Tony,

I am assuming that you have flashed the right binaries int he 2nd AWR1642BOOST .

Can you please share the log from failing visualizer and the corresponding log from the CCS console?

  • Hello Raghu,

thank you for your fast reply!

Sadly i cannot give you a log from CCS, since i'm not using the debug mode and thus, no CCS is used to run the Demo Firmware. Could this solve the problem? I always thought, that the only difference between CCS and direct Bin-Flash is the option top debug the code...

    Greetings
    Tony
  • This may not be the problem, but just in case

Make sure that you are using a 3A power supply.

SDK 3.0 does not support xWR1642, you should not use it.

Can you please take a look at the silicon on the EVM. It should be similar to attached picture (ES 2.0) silicon

    Thank you

    Cesar

  • Hello Cesar,

please excuse my late answer. It was a busy week.

I've checked the silicon on the board and recognized another Part number.

The Chip on my Board lists the following Numbers:

    XAWR1642

    IG

    79ZDYH9

    502  ABL

    The "X" makes me wondering..
    What is this for?

Greetings and thank you very much!

    Tony

  • Hi Tony,

I checked an EVM with ES 1.0 silicon and I see the same markings.

So, you have an EVM with ES 1.0 silicon

You should use the SDK 1.2

    Go to this page:

    www.ti.com/.../MMWAVE-SDK

Select "Get Software" for version 2.01.00.04

At the bottom of the page you will see a link for "MMWAVE-SDK v01.02.00.05"

    Thank you
    Cesar
