AWR1443BOOST: Problem flashing device, mmwave industrial toolbox 3.1.1 high accuracy lab...not a valid file to flash to AWR1443 .. running ES3.0 Silicon

Part Number: AWR1443BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH, , AWR1443, IWR1443

Hi,

Having issues with flashing the high accuracy lab xwr1443 to the AWR1443BOOST EVM module. Its under version 3.1.1 of the industrial toolbox but ive also tried 2.5.2 with the same issue. Console output of Uniflash below.

I had this same issue with the demo code too. I had to move from a 3.0SDK to 2.1SDK, it flashed succesfully for the 2.1SDK and i've had the radar module running on the visualiser succesfully, 3.0 has the same error as above.
I dont understand why im getting these issues as its the latest silicon ES3.0 594FC.

SOP headers have been checked and double checked, and as indicated previously i have had demo code sdk2.1 flashed on the device and ran succesfully

  • Hi,

Please double check that these lab versions are supported for 3.0 SDK. It is possible that they are not and that the pre-built binaries only work for SDK 2.1 since this is the SDK LTS that supports xWR14xx.

The purpose of the SDK 3.0 release is to support xWR68xx not XWR14xx

    Thank you
    Cesar
  • Hi Cesar,

Thanks for the response, I think the focus has been taken away from the high accuracy lab...

I understand your point on SDK3.0. I am running SDK2.1 demo code now.

I don't understand the relevance of the SDK to the labs... as the labs contain their own self contained prebuilt binaries, with no mention of having an SDK flashed as a prequisite.

If it is 1.2SDK i need what file exactly must i be falshing to my device, as i'm having no success with any of them at the moment.

  • Hello Dan,

Please see the summary of which devices and ES versions are supported by the current labs on the Industrial Toolbox labs overview page:
    dev.ti.com/.../

The IWR1443 High Accuracy lab currently only supports IWR1443 ES2.0 (and corresponding mmWave SDK 1.2.0.5). It will be ported to ES3.0 (and corresponding mmWave SDK 2.1.0.4) in one of the future Industrial Toolbox releases (specific release date is not available at this time).

    Regards,
    John
  • Hello John,

Thanks for that, I was unable to view the resource explorer in this manner through CCS. Not the news I wanted to hear, but appreciate the clear answer!

    Many thanks
    Dan
  • Hi John,

Would it be a relatively simple task to port the code myself through a CCS project, or is the revision in silicon likely to prove difficult to manouver around?

    Many thanks
    Dan

  • Hi Dan,

Here are the steps we will likely follow to port the current IWR1443 High Accuracy lab to mmWave SDK 2.1.0.4 for IWR1443 ES3.0.  You are welcome to try it yourself in the meantime if desired.

    1. Compare the latest 1443 OOB demo lab projectspec which supports mmWave SDK 2.1.0.4 to the projectspec in the previous version of that lab from Industrial Toolbox v2.5.2 (which supported mmWave SDK 1.2.0.5) and then make the same type of changes to current High Accuracy projectspec

    2. Compare the 1443 OOB demo source code from mmWave SDK 2.1.0.4 to the source code in mmWave SDK 1.2.0.5 and then make the same type of changes to current IWR1443 High Accuracy source code as needed

    3. Import the newly created IWR1443 High Accuracy projectspec and build the project

    Regards,

    John

  • Hi John,

    Thanks for the continued support!

I've managed to modify and build the project to produce a new high accuracy MSS binary file. Which radar RSS file should i flash to the device with my new MSS file.

    Many thanks
    Dan
  • Hi Dan,

For IWR1443 ES3.0, the mmWave SDK 2.1.0.4 build scripts combine the MSS image and RadarSS/BSS image into a single .bin file for flashing. So there is no need to flash the RadarSS/BSS separately. If your projectspec has the changes from the latest IWR1443 OOB demo then the post-build steps should generate a single combined binary.

    Regards,
    John
  • Hi John,

Brilliant, thanks for the heads up!

    Dan

  • HI Dan,

Have you solved the problem entirely?

I met the same problem with you.  So did you just modify the ".projectspec" to solve it?

Because 3.0 project removed all the ".h", etc.

I am not sure which way to go, could you share the resolution?

    Thanks!

    Wicky

  • Hi Wicky,

No I havent fully solved it. I've managed to build the new high accurayc lab. I modified the projectspec but there were one or two lines in other source files which i also changed. Sensor management .c was one file i can't remember the other of the top of my head.
This is my projecspect file under the heading project files (for your .h query)

    <file path="main.c" openOnCreation="false" excludeFromBuild="false" action="copy"/>
    <file path="data_path.c" openOnCreation="false" excludeFromBuild="false" action="copy"/>

    <file path="COM_TI_MMWAVE_SDK_INSTALL_DIR/packages/ti/platform/xwr14xx/r4f_linker.cmd" openOnCreation="false" excludeFromBuild="false"/>

Im currently able to connect to the high accuracy visualiser however it is not showing data.

You should also check out this thread if you get as far as creating your won binary file, as my main issue now is interfacing with the high accuracy visualiser

  • Hi Dan,

Sorry for the delay, I have managed to run the demo through debug mode, so thanks for your help!

About , I encountered the same GUI probIem when I run the Vital Sign demo. Still working on it, let's keep in touch!

    Wicky

  • Hi,

Tried to attach my binaries for the high accuracy visualiser, to be used with ES3.0. I've ran it succesfully on the AWR1443 ES3.0. Alsotried to attach the profile i've used, modified from original to include lowPower  0 1 line. works with GUI high accuracy visualiser.

Not sure on the etiquiette of how to pass on these files on this forum

    Dan

  • Dan,

It is possible to attach files as desired by first clicking on the "Insert Code, Attach Files and more..." link below the text box.

    Regards,
    John
  • Hi John,

It doesnt allow .bin files. you can attach them, but the moment you try to post them it pops up with all the files attachments that you can post, .bin is not one of them.

In any even I've attached a zip of the entire repositry and the binary files can be found in there.

    Cheers
    Dan
