AWR1243: AWR1243 version E2.0 +DCA 1000 mmWave studio bugs

Part Number: AWR1243

Hello ,

I have bought ARW1243 (Ver.E2.0),and useDCA 1000 to test the board ARW1243 boost  in both  mmwave studio 1.0 and 2.0.

there are several bugs:

1) SPI  connect

10:10:43]  [RadarAPI]: ar1.PowerOn(0, 1000, 0, 0)
10:10:43]  Status: Failed, Error Type: RESP TIMEOUT
LUA shows PowerOn failure

2) some time SPI  connect is OK  but RF  power is down

the function is ar1.RfEnable()  LUA shows ans= -8

and I can't get through this bug

I use two separate 5V2A  DC  power  and SOP0/1 is closed with Jumpers

and other questions:

1) what's  the difference between mmwave studio 1.0 and  2.0 's firmware? version numis  the same is BSS FW

2) Can I use mmwave studio 2.0 to develop ARW1243 (Ver.E2.0)?

3 )can  these bugs be solved ? if  not ,can I return the board  or change to the new verison ?

thank you for your time and consideration !

best regards !

Allen

  • Hi Allen,

    1) The AWR1243 firmware versions are released as part of the MMWAVE DFP available here:
    www.ti.com/.../MMWAVE-DFP

DFP 1.2.0 is for AWR1243 ES3 and DFP 1.0.0.1 was the last version released for AWR1243 ES2 devices.

mmWaveStudio includes some firmware versions for convenience, but we recommend that you always use the firmware versions from the updated DFP packages.

Could you please post a picture of your EVM showing the top side markings on the PCB as well as on the chip? This will help us to identify if you have an ES2.0 or an ES3.0 device.

    2) In general, mmWaveStudio 2.0 can also be used with older devices, but we officially support only the ES3 devices.

    3) mmWaveStudio is primarily meant for evaluation using the GUI buttons. Note that the LUA scripting interface is experimental and may not work very well; mainly the workarounds are to add additional timing between commands.

    Best Regards,
    Anand
