HDC1080: Soldering Problem

Hi All,

I have recently purchased HDC1080 and HDC1010 sensors, and I am now having no clue of how to use these, because of their ultra small size. How can these be soldered? I have DIP Adapter Evaluation board with me as well, but is simply is not helping me in this case.

Hi Qasim,

Normally these packages are soldered using solder paste and reflow ovens or hot air tools. In the case of HDC, its best left to professionals, because a messy solder process can contaminate the sensor altering its performance. You can buy the relevant EVM from TI, or there are some adapter boards which come assembled from third parties.

Thanks Ren. Do you know of the Evaluation board for HDC can be integrated with another MCU? Or how can I derive a relay according to the humidity data received.

The HDC EVMs are designed to be snapped off and wired to another host.

Thanks Ren. Do you have any sensors which are not nano size? I have tried the soldering paste and hot air rework station for soldering this sensor, but in vain. Also, I wanted to know if this sensor works the same as 1-wire sensors? Like DS18B20 temperature sensor. I intend using two of these humidity+temperature sensors with raspberry pi as the controller. Or, can one EVM have more than sensors?

Hi Qasim,

HDC1080 is the bigger of the two humidity sensors. TMP75B is a temperature sensor, without humidity feature, that is available in SOIC package.

We don't currently offer a temperature sensor compatible with Maxim's 1-Wire interface.

You'll need to connect HDC devices or TMP75B to an I2C host. The raspberry pi supports I2C.

Typically our EVMs don't support more than one sensor. This is a limitation of the EVM design. The sensors themselves and the I2C bus can support multiple addresses.
