Hi,

We want use mmWave to monitor amplitude(vibration) of engine, motor...

So checked vital sign demo and firmware, it can monitor amplitude(vibration), but my understanding, vital sign algorithm is for heart rate and breathing rate (Bandpass filter and Spectral Estimation FFT)

For ours require, how to do next step?

Hello,

mmWave for vibration monitoring leverages the Doppler shift to track moving objects over time. While we do not have a demo available for vibration monitoring, we believe that mmwave as a vibration monitoring technology is good for low frequencies under 600Hz. The performance will depend upon SNR which in turn will be driven by factors such as type of object, distance from the sensor, maximum vibration frequency etc.

Could you provide some information about the use case and requirements such as maximum frequency, type of object etc?

For industrial, like motor, engine, air conditioning, under 10000 rpm, do preventive detection.

Hi Tim,

As defined above, the suitability of mmWave in this application will depend upon achieving a good SNR (~50dB) at the maximum vibration frequency. We have not experimented with this but generally at low frequencies, the SNR should be easy to achieve, but at 1-10kHz, it is unclear which is why we believe the technology is good for low frequencies.
