Hello

I am using the sensor FDC1004 sensor and the Sensing Solutions EVM GUI v1.9.4. The device was working perfectly until I updated the sensor with the wrong firmware.

Can you please provide me with this firmware? I didn't find a firmware for FDC1004 in sensing solution GUI EVM.

Hello T.I. Team,

How to view this graph as shown in the figure and change the capacitance input ? I installed the software GUI and driver for LDC1004 EVM, evm connected to host PC. In "sensing solution EVM GUI", how to set as same in the figure?

Dear T.I. Team,

I would like to know how to track the sensing distance for FDC1004evm. In the video provided by TI it says that it could reach to 70 cm. How to set the EVM to reach the longer distance? I want to understand more about this evm. I want to understand what this register means and why its current value is writable. Please see the two picture below. Thank you~

Hi Janine,

On the GUI if you click on the Data Streaming tab: you can plot Capacitance Vs time. For more information about the EVM, please go through the EVM user's guide:

Dear Bala,

So the firmware for FDC1004 is "HDC10x0_EVM_Firmware.txt"?

On the GUI i don't know which parameter need to set to make the graph same as shown above (4 graph in 1 screen). The current value of register is editable, what code should input if i use the Cin1 (Channel 1)? How to determine its sensing range? If i close my hand to the sensor (proximity sensing), how do i distinguish its sensing range? I only see Capacitance on vertical axis.

Hi Janine,

Sorry about that, here is the firmware for FDC1004:

For EVM version 1.9.4, you can only get 1 graph of Capacitance Vs Time. Where did you get the screen shot with 4 graphs in one screen? The best way to get the sensing range is by first getting the noise floor, which is equal to 6 times the standard deviation. you can get this from the Data Streaming page when you click "Statistics" button. Then get the mean value when there is no target and when there is target (your hand), the delta between them should at least be 10 times the noise floor. This is how you can determine the sensing range.

thank u Bala for the reply. I am using single ended configuration. I tried our own sensor , its size about 2.5 cm with a thickness of 0.4 cm. It has 2 parts, 1 for Cin and the other is for GND. at the evm, I cut the sensor and replace our own sensor. i shorted the 2 shields of the FDC1004, I just followed the instructions from datasheet. But in terms of setting the parameters of the GUI , I am confused. it says in the datasheet "set the CHA field (bits(15:13)), set CAPDAC". I don't understand on this part. what is the relation between the registers and configuration in the GUI? Please help me understand this.

This is evm, using our own coil.

Shield 1 is shorted to shield 2.

I am just using 1 channel. Does the connection of sensor electrode to evm is correct? What to set in the "configuration" and "registers" in GUI if i am just using 1 channel and it is single ended configuration?

Hi Janine,
The EVM defaults to single-ended mode. But, you can configure the EVM for differential measurement by changing CHB < b100, you can read about this in Section 8.4.2 of the datasheet: www.ti.com/.../fdc1004.pdf. how to determine the CHB setting in "registers"? What's the difference between "configuration" and " registers"? are they related?

Hi Janine,
There are 4 channels for FDC1004, each channel has a CHA and CHB. CHA is bits 15 to 13 and CHB is bits 12 to 10. Please refer to Table 4 of datasheet to see how to configure the registers for different CINx . Yes, configuration page and registers are related. You can setup a differential measurement by enabling both CHA and CHB in the configurations page or you can manually implement it in the registers page by editing CONF_MEASx register.
