TI954 support max resolution

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB954-Q1, DS90UB953-Q1

Dear

Whether TI954-TI953 can run 8M pixel sensor? Resolution is 3840*1920。 And what is the max frame rate if 8M can work?

Output data is YUV422 to TI953 with MIPI 4lanes.

Thanks.

  • Hello FLY,

Please clarify the device part number you are referring to.  Is it the DS90UB954-Q1?

    Thank you,

  • Hi Leonard,

    PN is ds90ub954-q1  and ds90ub953-q1.

    Thanks for response.

  • Hello FLY,

You have to look at it in terms of bandwidth of the SerDes. The DS90UB954-Q1 has a max datarate of 4.16Gbps or 3.32Gbps CSI. That is 832Mbps/lane and if you are going to be sending a resolution of 3840x1920 with YUV422 (assuming 8-bit YUV422, so 16bpp) and 30fps with about 25% overhead for the blanking and CSI. This will equate to 1.1Gbps/lane, so the SerDes will not have enough bandwidth. What you would have to do is reduce the fps down to about 20-22 and then you can do 811Mbps/lane which is doable with these parts. ((3840x1920x22x16)x25%)/4 = 811Mbps/lane.

  • Hi Mandeep Singh,

Thanks for answer with so detail calculation. From your answer that can confirm TI954 and TI953 can translate 3840*1920 resolution with about 20fps.

I wonder whether there is some resolution limit with TI954, not only data transmission rate ? Pls help double confirm.  Many thanks.

  • Hi FLY,

There is no resolution limitation, as long as you meet the bandwidth requirements.
