I am currently working for an obstacle detection project and what do you think is the best suited module, Standard AWR1642EVM or AWR1642EVM-ODS, if my parameters are these:

Maximum Range: 50 meters

Field of View:

Horizontal: 120 degrees

Vertical: 30 degrees

Velocity Resolution: 60kph to 70kph

The AWR1642BOOST and AWR1642BOOST-ODS feature different antenna patterns. The ODS board features single patch antennas with low gain and wide field of view in both azimuth and elevation. The standard BOOST EVM features multi-patch antennas with a wide field of view in azimuth only.

As a device AWR1642 can reach upto 100m with shorter FOV and that depends on antenna pattern and design.
For the reference we provide two type of antenna pattern to cater near field and medium field range with different azimuth and elevation angle.

If your usecase can live 15-20m then to cover elevation angle you can go for ODS EVM. We recommend you to start evaluating with one of these EVM and for final implemetation you can have your antenna design to cover your use case end to end.

Okay. Thanks! Last one question, so if i am going to place my mmwave sensor in front of my car and detect cars in front of me to avoid head on collision, let's say that the opposite car travelling at a rate of 50km/h or greater, what module do you recommend for me? The standard or the ODS?

Default EVM is better option as for speed car you need to track that object at longer distance which ODS EVM may not see at that long distance due to single patch antenna.
Further I would recommend to have a look at SRR demo implemented on AWR1243BOOST EVM.
