TMP451-Q1: On board Memory?

Part Number: TMP451-Q1

Hi All,

Does the TMP451-Q1 temp sensor have non-volatile storage of programmed values? Or do we need to program it on each power-up? I searched the datasheet and application note and couldn't find any reference to this I don't think it does but I need to confirm.  Please let me know.

Thanks & regards, John Garrett, TI-AFA

  • Hello John,

The TMP451-Q1 does not have non-volatile memory or storage of programmed value and must be programmed at startup.

If you can let us know what application the customer is looking for, we can perhaps suggest another part which may have NV storage and meet the requirements if possible.
  • Thanks Amit,

The problem the customer is having is how to handle cold-starts and hot-starts where the TMP wakes up and asserts an alarm. They claim it powers-up with the alert output asserted before they can program it. Is there a way to get around this for hot and cold starts?  They use over-temp to shut things down so this alert creates an obvious problem.

Thanks & regards, John Garrett, TI-AFA

  • Hello John,

Currently the Local and Remote High at POR is 85 C and Local and Remote Low at POR is 0 C. The thermal limit for Local and Remote is 110 C. Do you mean that during the cold and hot starts the value is going to be less than 0 C or more than 85 C or 110 C?

Does the application require remote and local sensing and needs to be Q1 grade?

The conversion time is 31 ms (typ). If it is possible to reprogram, then can they try to reprogram the configuration register to be in SD mode, to avoid a conversion being done?
