I need to be able to have the sensor reboot itself if there is no serial port activity. Is there a sample or an api call to to reboot. On the 2640 I called SysCtrlSystemReset(); Which directly wrote to registers. Is there an equivalent function for the IWR1642?

Also, is there a way to initiate a reboot via the usb port. Is there some command that i can issue via serial port to reset the unit via XDS110. In the documentation, it states that the XDS110 uses SW2 (a hardware switch) to reset the unit. How can i externally make this happen via USB.

Hi Greg,

You can initiate a soft-reset from software by writing the value 0xAD to the SOFTSYSRST register as Vaibhav mentioned above. Please let us know if you have more questions on this topic.

Once the RC4 (arm processor) is reset, does the DSP also get reset? In other words, how do I initiate a soft reset of the DSP?

In addition, I read the following in the Errata of the 1642. Is this still a problem on the current revision? Can you give me some direction on this item?

MSS#14 Asynchronous Assertion of SoC Warm Reset may not Work Reliably When Device Operating on PLL Clock
Revision(s) Affected: AWR1642 ES1.0
Description: Asynchronous assertion of SoC warm reset through WARM_RESET pin, SW reset, watchdog reset, or Debug reset may not reliably work and may also result in a system hang scenario.
Workaround(s): MSS VCLK must be switched from PLL clock to REFCLK by following the prescribed
software sequence before a warm reset is issued.

Hi Greg,

Writing to the SOFTSYSRST register is equivalent to pressing the NRST switch on the EVM so it resets the DSP as well.
The errata is applicable only to AWR1642 ES1.0 revision only and it was fixed in ES2.0 which is the production device, as shown in table 1 of the device errata.

Sorry for being a rookie, but where do I find the base address for the MSS_TOPRCM registers?

Hi Greg,

As defined in the mmWave family Technical Reference Manual,

MSS_TOPRCM address: 0xFFFF_E100

SOFTSYSRST offset: 0x1C

Hence, you need to write the value 0x0000_00AD to the address 0xFFFF_E11C

Thanks for that confirmation. I saw that in the manual. I was also wondering if there was a define or a typedef that had this MSS_TOPRCM offset instead of making my own.

Look under C:\ti\mmwave_sdk_02_01_00_04\packages\ti\common\sys_common_xwr16xx_mss.h for the base address:

#define SOC_XWR16XX_MSS_TOP_RCM_BASE_ADDRESS 0xFFFFE100U

Additionally, the SOC register layout structure is defined in

C:\ti\mmwave_sdk_02_01_00_04\packages\ti\drivers\soc\include\reg_toprcm_xwr16xx.h

The SDK demo initializes the SOC handle structure in mss_main.c as shown below:

The socHandle has references to the SOC register layout, including TOPRCM regs so you can write to the SOFTSYSRST using this structure directly, without having to create your own definitions.
