AWR1642BOOST: One of two boards not working

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH,

Hello,

one of our sensors isn't working, please see pictures below. The left picture shows the defect sensor, the right picture shows the working sensor. Further below is a picture of the manual.

Thank you for your help!

Greetings, Reinholz

  • Are you able to flash code or connect CCS to the board that is defective?
    thank you
    Cesar
  • No, both is not possible.

    Greetings
  • Jennifer,

When you connect the defective sensor to your PC via USB and the device is powered on, what does your Device Manger look like? Can you upload a screenshot of your Device Manger?

    Regards,
    Kyle
  • Jennifer,

Both UART ports are listed in your device manager as expected. This does not appear to be an issue. You should be able to use the Uniflash tool to load a binary application image onto your device.

What is the process that you use to flash the image to your device?

    Regards,
    Kyle
  • Hey Kyle,

As you can see I have tried to flash the AWR1642BOOST System with the latest Version of Uniflash. Although I have the permission to write data through the used Port, the Chip isn't responding.

    Best regards

    Ben (on behalf of Jennifer)

  • Jennifer,

Thank you for uploading a screenshot of your Uniflash tool. It looks like there a few things that need to be addressed based on this information.

First, as a quick refresher, when you want to flash a .bin file to the device, please make sure that both SOP0 and SOP2 and closed with jumpers. Then when you want to run the application, remove SOP2, leaving only SOP0 closed.

Second, the image that you are attempting to load is not the correct image. The image you are attempting to load is just the BSS firmware image. All of the images that are flashed to our AWR1642BOOST board are meta images that include the following:

    - MSS image (application code on R4F)
    - BSS image (device firmware)
    - DSS image (application code on C674x)

Attempting to load just the BSS image will result in a error as seen above in your screenshot.

Using the Out-of-Box Demo as an example in mmWave SDK v2.1, you would flash the following file to your device:

    C:\ti\mmwave_sdk_02_01_00_04\packages\ti\demo\xwr16xx\mmw\xwr16xx_mmw_demo.bin

Please refer to the documentation that is provided in the SDK docs folder for more information.

So it looks like this was just an issue with flashing the wrong binary to your device and not an issue with the hardware being defective.

    Regards,
    Kyle
  • Kyle,

I am currently not able to mark this issue as resolved/unresolved, since I don't get any further information from the student working with the sensor with your proposed solutions.

Thank you for your effort so far and I apologize for the poor description of problems I was able to give you.

I will notify you if there are any updates.

    Regards,
    Jennifer
  • Jennifer,

Thank you for this update. Please respond to this thread when you have an update.

    Kyle
