AWR1443BOOST: Radar won't flash with binary that should be compatible

When I attempt to flash a binary that should be compatible with this radar according to the directory structure, I get the error shown below. What do I need to do differently?

It doesn't work no matter what image slot I place the binary.

The binary from SDK 1.2 flashes just fine, but doesn't work with the demo visualizer. I posted another topic regarding that issue here: https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors/f/1023/t/763596

Nathan,

If you can successfully flash your AWR1443BOOST with SDK v1.2, then you most likely have an ES 2.0 device. If that is the case, then you will not be able to use SD v2.1 and flash the Out-of-Box demo from that SDK onto your device. SDK v2.1 only supports AWR1443 ES 3.0 devices.

Therefore, the Uniflash tool is raising the compatibility error correctly. You can search on this forum about determining the silicon revision number of your particular AWR1443 device. Please keep in mind that AWR1443 and AWR1642 use different revisions. All compatibility information is included in the User's Guide and Release Notes for each SDK release.

Is there a way to find my ES version? I bought this module only a few months ago; it is hard to believe the software is no longer supported for this device after such a short time.

Nathan,

You can find out your ES version based on the device packaging markings and cross referencing that information with the device datasheet.

Thank you for the suggestion. I attempted to find the version based on this pdf: http://www.ti.com/lit/er/swrz075c/swrz075c.pdf, indicating it is an E.S. 2.0 device.However, based on the figure, I would assume the part number should be XAWR1443. Is it still an AWR device if my chip says XIWR? See the attached image for reference.

Based on the image that you provided, your device is an IWR1443. You can verify that with the IWR1443 errata: www.ti.com/.../swrz074b.pdf

Please keep in mind that you can still use this device just as you would an AWR1443. The distinction primarily comes down to the temperature ranges that each device is rated for.

This comes as a surprise, seeing as all packaging and marking labels indicate it is an AWR1443 device. Provided no alternate software is required it is not a problem, but it shouldn't have been marketed as a different item.

I appreciate your help; all my issues have been resolved.
