AWR1243: AWR1243P cascade system by re-soldering it on AWR1243BOOST EVM

Part Number: AWR1243

Hi,

In a previous post it was mentioned that AWR1243P is the only chip that allows cascade and it does not have an EVM. But, AWR1243 does have an EVM. So my question is whether it's possible to replace an AWR1243 with AWR1243P on an AWR1243BOOST EVM by resoldering and then using the EVM for cascade? Specifically, Is it possible to get a connection to FMCW_SYNC pins by this tweak while keeping the EVM and its antennas intact?

  • Hi Kshitiz,

For the first part, it is possible to replace an AWR1243 with an AWR1243P on the AWR1243BOOST EVM as the devices are pin and footprint compatible. However you will not be able to use the AWR1243BOOST EVM for cascading.

Cascading requires a carefully PCB with all the AWR1243P devices on the same PCB. The FMCW_SYNC pins carry very high frequency signals. External connection of these signals is not likely to be useful. The AWR1243BOOST PCB was not designed to be used for cascading.

    Best Regards,
