IWR6843: Antenna related question

Part Number: IWR6843
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVEICBOOST

Hi, TI engineer

I got confused by the file SWRU546–mmWaveICBoost and Antenna Module. In page12, we can see TX Antenna Radiation Pattern.

But I got two questions:

1.What's the definition of the unit dBFS?

2.We use HFSS for simulation. And we can feed every single antenna to find out their performance, but how to see radiation pattern for TX1->RX1? Do we need to feed TX1 and RX1 simultaneously?

Waiting for your reply. Thank you!

  • Hello,

In this graph dBFS refers to dB Full Scale, Radiation measurements here are plotted are relative to full scale.
Typically you would see peak value of the radiation pattern around the bore-sight and relatively w.r.t to that peak value other angles would be plotted and that would be lower in value in each side w.r.t to bore-sight.

    2) These are not simulation measurements, But measurement done inside an anechoic chamber. Here corner reflector is kept at bore-sight and Radar is rotated in Azimuth/Elevation planes and measurement is plotted across Tx and Rx combinations.

    Thanks and regards,
