IWR1443: IWR1443 Logging UART doesn’t work

Hi,

Logging UART doesn’t work in our custom board. Command UART works properly. We use XDS110 debug probe to connect our board to computer. I guess there is unrouted pins. What IWR1443 pins should we connect to XDS110 ?

We have IWR1443 rev ES2.0 on the board.
TMDSEMU110-U Firmware Version 2.3.0.16 is used to connect it to computer.

Pin R5 IWR1443 connected to pin 17 of 30 pin IDC socket of the probe.
We see signal from R5 on oscilloscope. But it doesn’t pass to through the probe to computer.

What’s amiss?

Hi,

Please use the IWR1443BOOST as reference. Pin N5 and N6, (RX232_TX and RX232_RX) should be connected to the XDS110.

Hi Charles ,

RS232 Uart on N5, N6 works properly. It passes through XDS110. My question related to MSS_LOGGER Uart R5. XDS110 don’t allow the signal to pass through.

MSS_LOGGER from the IWR1443 signal need to be connected to 25th Pin of XDS110 Device (TM4C1294NCPDT).

This pin is available on the Expansion header.

And the right firmware should be loaded in the XDS110 device as described in the below location:

RX232_RX and RX232_TX connected to AUX 12, AUX14 respectively.
TMDSEMU100-U routes them to virtual COM port named ‘XDS110 Class Application/User UART’

MSS_LOGGER is connected to Expansion 17. TMDSEMU100-U routes it to none.
There is no data at virtual COM named ‘XDS110 Class Auxiliary Data Port’

Is our TMDSEMU100-U defective or virtual COM ‘XDS110 Class Auxiliary Data Port’ just dummy port?

What do you expect to see on the terminal? Does the terminal show any data when you run on the boosterpack?

Also ensure you set the terminal to the correct baud rate

We have IWR1443BOOST. It contains XDC110 TM4C1294.
We have custom board on IWR1443 ES 2.0. External TMDSEMU110-U is used.

There is MSS_LOGGER data on XDS110 'Class Auxiliary Data Port' for IWR1443BOOST. There is not any data on 'Class Auxiliary Data Port' for custom board.

But I can read MSS_LOGGER data from custom board when it connected to FTDI USB cable.

I use same reading software for all cases. It tested and works correct.

There is a problem in TMDSEMU110-U.

I used Mmw Demo to test MSS_LOGGER connection too. It doesn't work through TMDSEMU110-U 'Class Auxiliary Data Port'. It works well when FTDI USB cable is used instead.

Hello,

We have checked with the TMDSEMU110-U development team. Unfortunately it's not supported in TMDSEMU110-U.

The limitation on probe UARTs results from the max number of USB endpoints we can support with TM4C129. The probe has some other functions (like EnergyTrace) . These functions require USB EPs and this limits the number of EPs that we can use for the USB CDC (the virtual COMM ports).

The probe does not have any physical connections that can be used to support an additional UART.
