IWR1642BOOST: Getting Started

Hi,

I am a student trying to use the IWR1642BOOST for my project. My embedded programming skills are basic so I know I have a steep learning curve especially since I am starting with a complex device like this .

I have a couple questions.

1. Some of the training videos for the mmwave sensors do not work. I contacted TI Support and I was told to post it here. The links are below

There are others too but this was the one that was currently giving me issues.

2. Is the IWR1642BOOST EVM the only hardware needed to the out-of-the-box demo or do I need a launchpad as well? I connected it to the computer, also installed the stand-alone XDS drivers as stated by the user guide but my computer still doesn't recognize the COM ports so I am not able to run it on the Demo visualizer.

3. The user guide also says that after connecting the EVM board to power(I used a 5V, 4A AC adapter), the NRST and 5-V LEDs should glow but I'm only getting the red 5V LED to blink, could this mean that there is a problem with my board? (I also tried resetting it by pressing the SW2 switch but no change) Could that be why I am having issues establishing a connection with the EVM and my computer?

Hi Ololade,

You'll want to look at the 1642 demos on the resource explorer. There are many step-by-step instructions for these labs and they are available here: dev.ti.com/.../

The IWR1642BOOST is the only thing you'll need for most of these demos.

Would you mind posting a picture of your powered board?

Thanks for the info. The lab is really helpful. Here is a picture of the board. The light is just only blinking so here's a picture while its on

Hi Akash, I pasted the picture but Im guessing it didn't show so I have attached it to this reply. Please let me know if you can see it. I installed all the software as posted by the setup guide. I also installed the XDS Driver, however, when I connect it to a PC, nothing still shows up in PORT. I also tried it on multiple PCs as well as with multiple USBs.

Hi Ololade,

It appears your board is not being powered properly. Would you be able to provide specs on your power supply? You should be using a 5 V, >3A supply.

Yes, I actually tried two Adapters. One 5V and 4A, and another 5V and 5A. Below are the links to the specific ones I ordered.

And with both of them, only the RED LED was blinking.

Hi Ololade,

Have you tried pressing the NRST button (SW2) when your board is powered on?

If you are using the correct power supply then your board appears to have been damaged. I'd recommend ordering a new one.
