AWR1642BOOST: AWR1843BOOST Features

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1843BOOST, , AWR1642, AWR1843

I'm planning to buy an AWR1843BOOST EVM, i wanted to know the maximum range, range resolution, vertical and horizontal angular field of view and other features it has.

I have already gone through the user guide and the data sheet. I need specific number.

I'm currently using an AWR1642BOOST EVM.

Also, will it be best suited for Adaptive Cruise control application?

  • Hello Rahul,
A lot of "specific numbers" would depend on your system specifications. For example the max range, FoV etc. would depend on what kind of object you want to detect (RCS) , what kind of max velocity you expect the object to be etc. etc. You get specific values to you use case you can use the Sensing estimator tool ( dev.ti.com/.../) . The TX o/p , RX noise figure etc. you can find in the datasheet. The antenna specification you can find in the 1843BOOST user guide. The range resolution depends on the BW you configure in the chirp, we allow a max of 4Ghz BW which provides ~4cm range resolution.

Regarding your query about using AWr1843 device for adaptive cruise control, the AWr1843 device provides a longer range than the AWr1642 device since it support larger IF bandwidth (10Mhz compared to 5Mhz in 1642) , has more L3 memory for the radar data cube and supports 3 TX simultaneous operation (which could be used for beam forming).

    Regards,
    Vivek
