PGA411-Q1: EVM Support Needed

Part Number: PGA411-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB2ANY

Hello,

I got a PGA411Q1EVM (Rev. A) from DigiKey yesterday. I install the software without problem, but when I try to connect to the board the USB led keeps blinking. The GUI shows the USB2ANY controller, the status Connected but the USB Firmware shows 0.0.0.0 and the Q1 Device shows Not Available. The bottom of the GUI shows a FAULTRES Fault report. I double checked the jumpers and follow the fault clearing procedures as stated in the manual but without success. I also tried to run the software on a Windows 7 machine with the same result. Is it the case of a defective board or am I missing some step to get the the board connected? Thanks.

  • Eleri,

You need to press the MCU_RST button on the EVM, wait for the LED to be solid, and then open the GUI. Sometimes you might have to try pressing the MCU_RST button multiple times before it goes solid.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Clancy,

Perfect. O got the board connected now. Thanks a lot for your prompt reply.

    Eleri.
  • I am having a similar issue.

    The EVM seems to be connected through the USB properly with the following exceptions;

    1. PGA41x-Q1 Device shows "Not available"

    2. The Device state is in "RESET N/A" - I am unable to change states.

when I try to change states I get this message;  "Unable to switch state. Try again. If issue persists, Reset EVM & restart GUI.

    I am using windows 10.

    Thanks

  • David,

If the "USB Firmware" reads as 2.6.5.53, then the MSP430 is connected properly to the GUI. If it is displaying as 0, then you must follow the MCU_RST procedure I outlined above.

If the PGA41x-Q1 Device is showing as "Not Available" and in "RESET N/A", then there are a few possibilities:
    - MCU did not connect properly (if this is the case, then "USB Firmware" should also be showing up as 0
    - VCC is not supplied to the PGA411 (this must be supplied through the banana jack connector, the board is not designed for USB power only).
    - jumper J3 is not installed

If these three things are correct, then something is wrong with the IC or the board, and ordering a replacement board may be the easiest solution.
