RTOS/IWR1443BOOST: Proper txOutPowerBackoffCode use

I am working with the IWR1443BOOST eval board and the occupancy demo software. I am trying to figure out the operation of the txOutPowerBackoffCode values in the config file. It seems to work with a value of 0 and 273 (0x111), but no other values. I have tried 0x222, 0x333, 0x444, etc. All other values seem to lock up the radar frontend. It just stops outputting data.

I can't seem to find much info about how it works. Where can I get the full info about how power backoff works and what the values truly mean?

The information about the TX power backoff code can be found on Pg 72 of the AWR1xx_Radar_Interface control document found in the mmWave DFP.

TX0_POWER_ BACKOFF

So, does this mean to reduce output power on all 3 txs, the valid values are 0x000, 0x333, 0x666, and 0x999? It seems to work if I put 0,3,6,9 in the cfg file but not if I put the decimal equivalent to the 3 nibble hex numbers. What am I missing?

Hello Charles,

In the mmWave SDK, the txOutPowerBackoffCode applies across all TXs that are enabled.

If you go to the low level commands then you would set each of the TX backoff values independently via TX0_POWER_ BACKOFF, TX1_POWER_ BACKOFF, and TX2_POWER_ BACKOFF.
