OPT8241-CDK-EVM: Eval board not properly powering up

Hello,

I am trying to power up a OPT8241-CDK-EVM board that hasn't been used in a few months and it is failing to start up.  The master status LED and Chipset status LED remain off with the power turned on.  When the USB cable is plugged in the illumination board status LED is solid red with the power switch off.  When the power switch is turned to the on position, the illumination board status LED flickers red (including when the power adapter is unplugged).  Any suggestions as to what could be broken?

  • I sent an email to the address above. It was suggested that I actuate the power switch a large number of times to potentially clean the switch contacts. It did not work. I sent in my findings after trying the suggestion and have not heard back with additional suggestions. (That was a week ago.)

    Please let me know once you're done with the debug steps I had mentioned in my email. Copying the email below for everyone's benefit:

    "First, off can you check if TPS659122 is receiving 5V input supply or not. You could check the voltage across C96 for this. If C96 doesn’t get 5V despite a combination of switch positions, USB supply, wall plug supply, it means that there is a problem upstream of this. By upstream, I mean that there must be a problem in the power distribution page (page 25 of schematics). You would have to check the input and output of each of the components in that page. You would also have to check the switch inputs/outputs to ensure that works. Starting from here, you would have to check upstream/downstream of the power supply network to understand which IC is misbehaving. And once you have narrowed down the problem to an IC, you would need to replace the IC.
    For finding the fault, all you would need is a multimeter, schematics, and some amount of trial and error. You would need a well-equipped soldering station to replace the faulty device. I suspect that some kind of ESD damage has killed a power supply IC causing this issue."

    We can continue this on email or on the forum. Email is preferred as this is a very specific case.
