TMP275: Long term drift

Part Number: TMP275

He there,

My company is using PT100 with a PLC analog unit since almost 8 years. We now have the problem that the analog PT100 circuit has some drift of more than 3°C. I'm new to the company and I want to solve the problem in a more elegant way as recalibrating all analog input stages from delivered modules.

We also have the TMP275AIDGKT included in the product which has a quite good accuracy. We are using the temperature sensor to measure the temperature in a cooler between 2...8°C. Is there any information about long term drift of the TMP275? An elegant way for me would be to recalibrate the PT100 sensor just by using the temperature from the TMP275. I found the STS3x-DIS which has defined long term drift, but I didn’t find anything similar form the TMP275 or any other IC from TI

Best regards
Kilian

  • Dear Kilian -
Page 5 of the TMP275 datasheet has typical long term drift defined in table 6.5. www.ti.com/.../tmp275.pdf
this data is from an accelerated life test at high temp and 500 hours, which should be equivalent to well over 5 years.
By contrast, the STS3x device, according to the datasheet you pointed out, would reach same drift in the second year.
  • Hi Josh

Thanks for pointing me this number. With Arrhenius equation I get a drift of ±0.0625°C in 58 years at room temperature which looks very good for my application. But I have to consider that TI only shows a typical value. Is there any information how this value was calculated? I looked in the qualification summary, and I didn't find any information. (Test-numbers, sigma etc.)

  • Dear Kilian -

if you found the qual summary (looks like it went up today) - the JEDEC standards we use for testing are listed there. I think the specific one for this topic is JESD22-A108.

     then enter part #.
