HDC1080: Industrial grade temperature sensor

Part Number: HDC1080
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP1075, , TMP112, TMP117, TMP116, TMP102

1) is HDC 1080 of industrial grade RHT?

2) If not, does TI has any other industrial grade RHT (Surface mount type)?

3) Any Industrial grade temperature sensor (Surface mount type)

  • Hello Ponmani,

HDC1080 is a Humidity+Temperature Sensor. if you are looking specifically for Industrial Grade Temperature Sensor, then I would suggest TMP1075, TMP112 and TMP102. If it is accuracy you are looking for then TMP116 and TMP117 may be better suited.
  • That is of good info. Thank you so much. It will be so helpful if you provide the answer to the below too.
What is the maximum vibration that HDC1080 can withstand (maintaining its accuracy in measurement), considering it is going to be mounted on such a position throughout its life?
  • Hello Ponmani,

Vibration should not be an issue for the device. Having said that, there is no data on any humidity or temp sensor I am aware of which provides effect of vibration on sensor output. For all solid state devices vibration should not be having an effect.
  • 1) Is it correct to say that there won't be any change in accuracy of measurement by HDC1080, though it is subjected to +/- 20g for its life, say about 7 years?

    2) is there a possibility of having HDC1080 of industrial grade quality in near future, say about 3 months?
  • Hello Ponmani

Can you please define what you mean by Industrial Grade? As mentioned earlier, there is no qualitative data on vibration effect on a humidity sensor (TI or otherwise). If you can specify the application, it would be much easier for us to let you know the answer.

Please note that the humidity sensor is sensitive to contamination as specified in the application note for the device. So even though it may not be susceptible to vibration causing an issue in the reading, contaminants can affect the accuracy of the humidity sensor.
  • Sure. It is designed to be used in an industrial IOT system, wherein it will experience to the max of +/- 20g throughout its lifetime. But, it is secured inside an IP67 ID. As we are designing our product for industrial application, i wanted to find out if HDC1080 is the correct choice..
  • Hello Ponmani,

As per the device specification, the device can operate in an ambient condition of -40 to +125 C which should be sufficient for the application.
