IWR1642: IWR1642 SRR example - increasing sensitivity @ 80m+

Part Number: IWR1642

Hi,

Using the SRR example I would like to increase sensitivity @ 80m range.

So far I have lowered the SUBFRAME_SRR_MIN_SNR_dB parameter in the DSS project dss_main, as well as included the 120m chirp (uncommented #define SRR_RANGE_120m in srr_config_consts.h).

Is this the correct approach or should I be doing something else as well ?

Thanks.

  • Hi,

Not clear why the 120m config is mentioned if the intent is to modify the 80m config.

There will be trade-offs for increasing the sensitivity.

I assume by sensitivity you mean "Velocity Resolution"

    Is this correct?

    thank you
    Cesar
  • Hi Cesar,

Assumption is that to improve the number of points at the 80m distance, increasing the range beyond the 80m will help, hence the 120m chirp.

Goal is to get a stronger point cloud at the 80m range, hence we modify the CFAR parameters as well. Up to the 20-40m distance is fine.

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

I don't think using the 120m configuration will help increasing the point cloud at 80m range.

CFAR should help with this but will also increase the clutter detection.

    Thank you
    Cesar
  • Additional information from algorithm developer

Here are some methods to increase the point cloud
    1) improving the antenna gain (so that the 80m chirp sees better SNR).
    2) Alternatively, we can change the chirp parameters to improve the SNR (increase the chirp period, so as to improve SNR).
  • Thanks, so what is the best approach in this case for increasing the chirp period -  Increase samples per chirp ?
