OPT3001: Effective resolution of opt3001

Part Number: OPT3001

Hi Team,

customer has a technical question about the light sensor OPT3001. This question is related to the effective resolution at a conversion time of 100 ms.

In the datasheet is noticed that depending on the exponent, choosing this conversion time may result in a resolution reduction of up to 3 bits.

They suspect that in this case the 3 lower bits may be faulty and not the 3 higher bits.

In the case of the lowest 3 bits, the error is a maximum of 3 bits = 0b111 = 7 times the step size (LSB Weight) and thus relatively low. If, of course, the top three bits can be flawed, the situation looks different. Can you give me an explanation?

Thanks

Martin
