IWR1642: Moving to Rev 2 SDK

Part Number: IWR1642

Hi guys,

Customer has the below question:

I had some inkling that there was a Rev 1 Silicon/Rev 2 Silicon issue with the SDK for the IWR1642. Wow!! There are massive differences.

It makes sense that the Rev 2 SDK won’t work on Rev 1 Silicon.

The million dollar question is whether there is any reason Rev 1 SDK code won’t run on Rev 2 Silicon?  This is an interim solution until we can get moved over to the newer SDK and figure out which things we customized.

Let me know if it makes more sense to take offline to get more into details.

Regards,

Brian

    Hello Brian,

The user can refer to the IWR1642 device errata to understand the silicon differences: www.ti.com/.../swrz073b.pdf
The differences between the SDK for ES1 and ES2 are indeed to support the newer ES2 but a lot of the changes in general are related to improving the processing chain and OOB demo in general.
The changes needed to migrate from SDK 1.02 which was the last to support ES1 to SDK 2.0 which was the first to support ES2 are documented in the migration guide section of the SDK2.0 release notes: software-dl.ti.com/.../mmwave_sdk_release_notes.pdf

Possibly they could change out the BSS firmware in the SDK and recompile the SDK1.02 using ES2.0 firmware from SDK2.0 to try and make it compatible with ES2.0.
