IWR1642BOOST: some quetions about mmwave

Hi, I hava three quetions about mmwave.

1. The vertical antenna direction of IWR1642BOOST is about 30 degree, but I can only get 2d imformation, so which angle we get in vertical ?

2. There are two objects, a and b, in the same direction of the device, a completely obstruct b, if b can recieve the wave?

3. The TX antenna transmits many signals, How to correspond the received signal to the transmitted signal?

Hi Wenhao,

The IWR1642BOOST does not have the extra Tx elevation antenna unlike the IWR1443BOOST or IWR6843ISK so you won't be able to obtain any elevation information from it.

This will depend on your sensors field of view but the sensor should be able to distinguish the two objects if they are more than 4 cm apart.

The sensor transmits through FMCW and the use of multiple Tx and Rx allows for several signal 'channels.' For IWR1642BOOST there are 4 Rx and 2 Tx which allows for up to 8 signal channels.

Thank you for your reply. I am still troubled by some quetions.

1. If I understand the 2D imformation, the IWR1642BOOST get, is projextion in the horizontal plane?

2. As see in the picture, a and b are in range, but a completely obstruct b，can b recieve the wave?

Hi Wenhao,

1, This is correct, you'll only get the horizontal plane.

2, For this example the sensor will not be able to detect object b.
