CCS/AWR1642BOOST: CCS/AWR1642BOOST:

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH, , MMWAVE-SDK, AWR1642, DCA1000EVM

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

I'm using Composer Stutio 9.0.1 on Mac
On windows : Code Composer Studio Version: 9.0.0.00018
In brief, I need assistance with :
1-Importing CCS project on Mac with OS High Sierra  or on cloud based CSS
2-Running PPlcount project  (was able to compile and run the dss and mss code, but ran into serious issue with GUI I have been trying to solve on matlab as much as possible.)
3-What do you do if the visualiser at: https://dev.ti.com/gallery/view/mmwave/mmWave_Demo_Visualizer/ver/3.1.0/  just hang on waiting for data ... for hours?
You can easily access my project of interest at:
I really look forward to hearing from you guys.
Thank you and have a wonderful day!
  • Hi,
Q2- What kind of issue you are facing with GUI? Is that Matlab GUI you are talking about?
Q3- This visualizer works with mmw demo application. And if it hangs on waiting for data then make sure that all the CLI commands are sent to device without any error and both of COM ports are connected with right baud rate.

    Regards,
    Jitendra
  • Q2-Yes. You can run almost everything from that project PPlcount project, but it fails at the Matlab GUI. So far I debuted it by insuring the 2017a Matlab runtime was working on my computer, I have installed some of the dependency files. I even tried bypassing that GUI using just the option: SceneRun = "Prgm_2box' to programmatically setup the scene and that ran with a Serial warning before stoping because there was no data in the reading buffer.

If there's any GUI alternative or a different GUI Documentation to quickly build a different from scratch please share.

Q3- Yes Checking the COM ports was my first step in troubleshooting. That is certain and wasn't the issue. one think I noticed on the flip side when I inspect the webpage interface were some Node.Js errors in that tool console. I should post a picture when I get in the lab or set it up again later today if that helps.

One thing I notice all across the board was it seems to be an issue with the serial communication. That's why I followed the steps again with Uniflash. It went well so my board is still in good shape (my serial communication aswell), but when I tried running that simple original visualizer,  it just hangs on that  "waiting for data..." though it showed hardware connected.  This is where I went ahead and inspected the webpage....

I hope it's not too long and thank you guys.  I appreciate it.

  • Hi Yves,

You will have to clarify what you mean when you say the GUI isn't working. This is the only supported GUI for people counting software.

Can you post a screenshot to provide more information? Would you be able to post a picture of your board as well?

Have you been able to run any of the other labs on your AWR1642BOOST?

    Cheers,
    Akash
  • Running the pplcount takes forever that's why you haven't post the screenshot yet. I reduced my issue around the serial port and have put my energy toward trying to run simply the mmWave Visualizer and this bellow is where I get stuck. It shows connected to the hardware and there's nothing else that happens. I just inspected to see webpage connection and this is what I see. I don't think it's much connected at all but hopefully you guys can clear this up.

  • Hi Yves,

Can you confirm you have selected the correct CLI and DATA ports for your board?

I noticed you have selected mmWave-SDK 2.0, you should flash the AWR1642BOOST with the prebuilt binary from the mmWave-SDK 2.1 and select this version in the visualizer.

If this still doesn't work then I'd recommend sending the config file manually over the visualizer in the 'Plots' tab.

    Cheers,
    Akash
  • Good morning, Yes I effectively have connected to the correct ports for it's not possible to flash it otherwise. I have tried that and the visualizer just stoped in the waiting for data steps for hours till I just stopped it.

  • Hi Yves,

As per my previous post, are you using binaries from the mmWave-SDK 2.1? Have you tried loading the config file manually?

    Cheers,
    Akash
  • Hello again and thank you for the time you take in assisting for a solution

I have included here more screenshots of various error encountered so far.

This is what we get when flashing with that 2.1 SDK

Just to make sure we are refering to the same SDK here bellow is the picture of the one I used.

I also invited a teamate to start flashing and testing each of the SDK to find out if it's an SDK issue.

More, I also had another run of the People count Demo and this time I took screenshot and here bellow it is.

I hope this helps you guys have better insight.

Since I'm almost running out of time on my project and this hasn't been really working with your Code Composer Studio, I started looking at how I could get simple analog data with Labview. This would greatly help if it could be done. How do I collect analog data with AWR1642 and LABVIEW? Please just don't point me to any of the previously asked questions that have not been answered.

Here Bellow is what I have so far, Critics and solution are welcome:

Alright If I could at least get a solution to getting analog data out of this AWR1642Boos with Labview it would help significantly.

Really looking forward to hearing from you guys.

Thank you and have a great evening.

  • Hi Yves,

For raw data capture I'd recommend getting a DCA1000EVM and using mmWave Studio. If you have more questions on this then feel free to open up a new ticket!
