IWR6843ISK: Need to verify Antenna simulation for IWR6843 ODS EVM

Hello All,

We are working on custom IWR6843 EVM ODS board using the 6843 chipset, I have run the antenna simulations in HFSS tool attached the results as a PPt, If any one can verify that the results attached Simulation_ODS.pptxcan be compared to TI antenna simulation results..

I have taken the Stack up/ PCB material RO3003, 5mils thickness, with appropriate Cu thickness, followed the same board stack up, material, antenna dimensions, Wish to know the simulation results that I have got are correct or not.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing this information. Transmitter simulations seems reasonable. However on the receiver side there is some anomaly.

It looks like patch dimensions are different for the receiver side. It could be the reason radiation pattern shows anomaly.

It's good to capture Azimuth and elevation cuts to review the antenna radiation patterns.

Hi Chethan sir,

Yes I will share the Azimuth & Elevation cuts/ radiation pattern for the 4 Rx array, In mean while could you kindly share the IWR6843 ODS TI antenna simulation results just for my reference to check on the same.

Hi Chethan sir,

Thank you for the time and reply on the quiery, I would like to know from the simulation results that we have shared in the "attachment", can you give your inputs/feedback on the return loss plots (S parameter), that's the one thing I wish to be confirmed from your end.

Hello Raghavendra,

S-parameter matching seem to be reasonable, as this is only patch element, However this would get altered when you include transmission line feed to Antenna ports. This need to be revisited moving the port to device reference plane (i.e. At the edge of the package) from the Antenna port. If the transmission lines are not matched i.e. away from 50 ohm then it could deteriorate S11 number. This you may want to watch out and keep it close to 50 ohm as much as possible.
