TDC1000-TDC7200EVM: interfacing of TDC1000-TDC7200EVM with SMD50T21F1000R

Part Number: TDC1000-TDC7200EVM

Dear Sir,

I want to measure fuel level in diesel generator tank.

The tank dimensions are as follows:

1) 1200 * 900*900 mm^3

2) 1828*1706*252 mm^3

I have decided to use the part number SMD50T21F1000R(https://www.steminc.com/PZT/en/piezo-electric-disc-50x21mm-r-1-mhz) as the transducer interfaced with TDC1000-TDC7200EVM evaluation module.

Kindly help me with the following :

1) the parameters to enter on the TDC1000 for this diameter\thickness\power.

2) the installation position of the transducer is on the top inside of the generator tank.

Nikita,

You could install the transducer either at the bottom of the tank or at top.

In case you choose to install the transducer at the top then you will be measuring the ultrasonic sound waves speed through air and for air typically we use transducer in the frequency range of 40Khz to few hundred Khz.
If the transducer is placed at the bottom and i assume the diesel is in liquid form then we could use transducer with resonant frequency of 1Mhz to say 4Mhz.

Also make sure that the transducer is oriented in such a way that it does not get reflections much from the side walls, this is typically avoided if the transducers are placed at center of the tank rather that at the sides.

There is not a standard settings/parameter for such measurements, however we suggest that go through our application notes & TDC1000 datasheet for parameters that can suit your setup.

Thank you Mr. Bharat. Now that I am clear with the posiitoning and parameter to be input to IC TDC 1000 , I have gone through the following two transducer specifications and found them suitable to interface with TDC1000- 7200 EVM module. Kindly have a look and revert back with your feeback.

Also if you could suggest with a better transducer, kindly let me know.

Nikita,

We do not have any list of transducers with the distances that it can measure upto. I would suggest that you contact the transducer manufacturers on the transducer capability.
