IWR6843ISK: DCA1000 data acquisition

Part Number: IWR6843ISK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVEICBOOST,

I have the MMWAVEICBOOST + IWR6843ISK + DCA1000. I'm using mmWave Studio 2.0.0.2.  I'm trying to follow the DCA1000_Quick_Start_Guide.pdf instructions.  I have some questions:

1. For the hardware connections, it mentions to mount jumpers on SOP0 and SOP1:

Is that the correct hookup?  In other documentation I see references to "SOP2" mode, so I'm wondering if perhaps that should instead say to mount jumpers on SOP0 and SOP2.

2. Is there any easy way of configuring the destination IP address to something other than 192.168.33.30?  That kills all my network access which is extremely inconvenient if I'm trying to google for answers to questions, join a webex to get help, etc.

3. I have the 12-pin swithc on the MMWAVEICBOOST configured for "DCA1000 Mode".  I assume that's correct?

4. In mmWave Studio, when I click the "Connect" button under RS232 operations, I get the following error in the "Output" window:

[16:29:07] [RadarAPI]: ar1.Connect(74,921600,1000)
[16:29:09] [RadarAPI]: Error: Connection failed: Calling_ConnectTarget returned 3
[16:29:09] [RadarAPI]: ar1.Calling_IsConnected()
[16:29:09] [RadarAPI]: ar1.SaveSettings('C:\Users\a0193370\AppData\Roaming\RSTD\ar1gui.ini')

What is the issue?  I verified in Device Manager that COM74 corresponds to the XDS110 Class Application/User UART.  Here's a screenshot:

5.  Once I get the RS232 thing figured out, the next instruction is:

Select the DataCapturedemo_xWR.lua file from the \mmwaveStudio\Scripts\ folder by clicking on the
browse button, then click on the run button.

However, when I click the browse button (3 dots) in the GUI, the corresponding file is not displayed or selectable because the GUI is filtering by "*.bin" files.  It won't even allow me to override and choose "all files" which is typical in most dialog boxes:

Nevermind on this specific item. I was clicking the wrong button.  Figure 5 shows the proper button to press on the very bottom toolbar near the right.  Help on the others would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Brad,

Our expert is looking into this.

  • Hello,

Please follow the DCA training video for help with the DCA and mmWave setup.

  • I have one remaining question highlighted below.

Between the video, the DCA1000 Quick Start Guide, and MMWAVEICBOOST User Guide, I was able to get things working.  So that said, I think I have answers to my original questions.

Looks like that was correct.  The video was very specific that the SOP2 jumper should be open, while SOP0 and SOP1 should be closed.

The video mentioned this is hard-coded into the FPGA code. Are there any other "advanced" options such as being able to record to a SD card, etc.?

This issue showed up randomly at one point today even after I had things working.  I closed down mmWave Studio, power cycled my hardware, and tried again.  It went away...

I mentioned this already, but the "Browse" button is the one toolbar in the bottom right corner.  That script was pretty slick for being able to simplify the overall demo.

  • Hello Brad,

Are you asking about the IP address? You should be able to retain your network connection while connected to the DCA IP address.

  • Chloe,

Changing my IP address manually to 192.168.33.30 killed my connection. I'm on a subnet that is not 192.168.x.x so I don't see how that is supposed to allow me to still use the internet.

The DCA1000 EVM has a micro-SD card. Is there a way to record to the card instead of streaming over the network?

    Best regards,
    Brad
  • Hi Brad,

The SD card storage and playback feature is not supported in this release.
