Sensors for dynamic distance and environmental disturbance avoidance

Dear team,

my customer needs a proximity sensor to measure dynamic distance of one machine's part in respect to another one. Stroke is 30mm and resolution 0.1mm. Customer tried to use LDC1614. Since everything around is made by Aluminium, the device's response is really disturbed by every movement close to the coils - it's enough to move your hand 10cm close to the coil and you get a wrong reading.

Can we suggest another device from our Sensors portfolio that does not suffer when there is environmental disturbances? What would it be our best suggestion?

Frederico, going to need to take another day to see who might be able to help outside of the LDC family (another BU or perhaps a SEM team) here in the factory. Please allow another 1-2 business days for response here.

Frederico,

mmWave and ToF are other technologies that can be considered.
- mmWave: See training.ti.com/mmwave-vital-signs-lab, it shows how mmWave can be used to detect very small distance movement.
- ToF: See www.ti.com/.../tida-010021 as a reference design showcasing the OPT3101, which is used for proximity sensing.
