FDC2214EVM: Connection for differential measurement

Part Number: FDC2214EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC2114EVM, FDC2114, FDC1004

I am testing a FDC2114EVM with a parallel plate sensor, the sensor's two plates (plate 1 and plate 2) are 5 mm apart. The manual has only a schematic for single ended connection.

Could someone tell me how to make a connection for the two-plate sensor for differential measurement?

I tried to connect plate 1 to one of the 4 channels and plate 2 to another one of the 4 channels, there is no value change in capacitance. There are value changes in capacitance when only one plate is connected to any one of the 4 channels.

Gu

  • Hello,

The FDC2114 has different architecture than the FDC1004 and cannot make differential measurements in the same way. For a differential measurement using the FDC2114, connect one plate to INxA and the other plate to INxB of the same channel. The FDC2114 only measures one channel at a time, and when a channel is not actively being measured it is connected to GND.

For more information about differential and single-ended configurations with the FDC2114, please see section 10.1 of the datasheet.

    Best Regards,

    Thanks,
