TDC1000-TDC7200EVM: USB port

Part Number: TDC1000-TDC7200EVM

Hi,

I have installed the GUI (1.2.7.1) and upgraded firmware to 2.01 on Windows 10.

As per the User's Guide, I do not see any COM port named as TDC1000_7200_EVM. I tried to update the driver of COM by pointing the driver folder to MSP430 USB Firmware Upgrade Example. But I keep getting the message that the best driver is already installed and the name of the port does not change.

Please help.

Regards,

Arunkumar

  • Hello,

We have received your question. Please expect a delayed response to due to a national holiday.

  • Arunkumar,

I understand the Device Manager shows up as below:

Please note you should be able to connect to this PORT and run the GUI in Windows 10. There is not further driver update needed to run this firmware if you get the message that the best driver is already installed, you can then skip this section in the User's Guide.

Now go to the Setup Tab in GUI and see if you could find the serial port (in my case COM14) and connect to it. You should be able to connect to it and run the GUI.

  • Hi Bharat,

Thanking you for the response. The port (COM5) is being shown in the GUI and I am able to select it, select Graph and get the plot of TOF; the TOF readings are the same for various reservoir sizes, level of water, which put me on the troubleshooting).

Related to the issue, when I take driver update option in Properties, the message is that the best driver is installed. However, the driver details in Properties is not the .inf file supplied with the EVM.

Also, when I right click on C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\TDC1000_7200EVM\Firmware\TDC1000_7200_EVM_DRIVER.inf and select Install, it gives a message "The third party INF does not contain digital signature information.", which makes me suspect that the driver is not properly installed.

With these inputs, can I be confident of the driver installation and Driver Issue Screenshots.docxtroubleshoot elsewhere for the constant TOF being displayed.

    Thanks and regards,

    A N Arunkumar

  • Arunkumar,

I will have to inspect this further and I will get back with you as soon as I can. Is the GUI not working for you ? To our understanding the device driver in your system is installed correctly.
  • Hi Bharat,

The GUI was working but I was getting inconsistent results. I would get the correct level once and if I add more water, the reading will not change. Because of this I suspected the driver.

Incidentally, I followed the steps detailed in this link - http://woshub.com/how-to-sign-an-unsigned-driver-for-windows-7-x64/ - and, got the EVM driver identified in Windows 10 Device Manager. However, the issue remains and any help is welcome.

  • Arunkumar,

I use Windows 10 and i also just have the USB in the device manager section while i connect the EVM.

Please note that if there is any issue of the driver we will not even be able to run the GUI.

The issue that you have is definitely not due to the EVM connection to the PC rather a setup related issue.

In case you continue to have any issue with the reading you get, please start a new thread with the expect result, setup & the current reading. We will be able to help gladly.
