FDC1004EVM: Frequency spectrum

Part Number: FDC1004EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC1004

Hi,

I am using an FDC1004evm device for object detection. one of my measurement i took almost 9000 samples and contains high noise from my sensing environment.

When I try to plot these samples in Matlab and try to make the frequency spectrum its shows the peaks only near 0 to 5Hz. (Sampling frequency was 95 Hz).

Actually, my question is is there any reference signal I can compare with? ls, there any frequency spectrum with the target?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello,

The output of the FDC1004 is the measurement of the capacitance itself. Since it is a DC measurement, you will not see any signal except DC which is what you are seeing 0 to 5Hz. You can refer to applications notes and data sheet on how to setup the measurements and to avoid common pitfalls. See here: www.ti.com/.../FDC1004. If you would like to compare it to reference signal, you can use the sensor on the EVM.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

    1) Actually, I didn't understand ''The output of the FDC1004 is the measurement of the capacitance itself.' can you just tell me just little bit more.

    2) And one thing you said I will not see any signal except Dc (0-5Hz). So my detected object signal must be within this range (0 to 5). Am I right?

    3) About the reference signal, I have to use the direct EVM like with built-in electrode?

    Best regards
