AWR1843BOOST: COM port conflict between the DCA1000EVM and the AWR1843BOOST boards

Part Number: AWR1843BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1843, DCA1000EVM, , IWR6843

Hi Champs,

I must be missing the obvious, but trying to set up myself for AWR1843 raw data capture, the Windows Device Manager reports that the XDS110 radar EVM uses the same COM ports as the AR-DevPack ones. I guess that's why mmWave Studio fails to perform the RS232 connect.

Please see the attached picture of my setup, mmWave Studio log, and Windows Device Manager window. I may have missed the obvious but could not figure it out. Thank you for your help.

Best regards,
François.

  • Hello Francois,

Can you try uninstalling the COM ports and then reconnecting the device? Just right click on the port and select 'uninstall' to uninstall the ports.

    Regards,

    Adrian

  • Francois,

Please also make sure that your DCA1000EVM has its own 5V, 2.5A power supply connected as well. The AWR1843BOOST + DCA1000EVM setup requires two power supplies.

    Regards,

    Kyle

  • Hi Kyle and Adrian,

Thank you for the quick responses. Uninstalling the ports indeed fixed the issue.

But I am left with another issue which is that after having loaded the BSS and MSS, clicking the SPI Connect button does not produce anything. It looks like the command line is stuck after the DownloadMSSFw command as the command window does not display the subsequent GetMSSFwVersion function (but the MSS firmware version is updated on GUI though). This issue occurs both for an AWR1843 and an IWR6843 board. I must be missing something else obvious...

    Best regards,
    François.

ps. The bottom of the RadarStudio windows shows a script from mmWave Studio v1.0.0.0. This version is not present on my PC anymore.

  • Hello Francois,

Regarding the AWR1843, can you try setting the switch 'S2' to SPI mode and see if this helps? If not, I would recommend starting a new thread for a separate issue.

    Regards,

    Adrian

  • Hi Adrian,

    Thanks. That made the trick.

    Best regards,
    François.
