proximity sensor matrix

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC2214, TDC1000

Hi all,

I would like to get some advice from more experienced people...

I am not complete noob in TI controllers, yet someone could direct me before I will start go thro' each and every possible solution and buy not necessary equipment just for testing.

I would like to build (as per title) proximity sensor matrix,

8x8 sensors covering about 400x400mm area (so 50x50mm per sensor)

Sensing range (25mm<   x  <100mm) from the face  of sensor.

Non metallic face.

Can be single chip or multiple chips, no restrictions on size and power requirements (yet I like designs to be efficient).

Appreciate any pointers.

Best regards

Henryk

  • Henryk,

What is the target for the proximity sensor? If this is to detect a nearby hand, then capacitive sensing could work for you. Look at the FDC2214. You could nest the metallic sensors behind the plastic housing. The size and range requirements you listed should not be a problem.

Another option is ultrasonic using time of flight measurements. The TDC1000 is probably the best device to look at from that family since it can handle shorter detection ranges.
