IWR6843ISK-ODS: Locate static objects

Hello!

I'm starting with mmWave with an IWR6843ISK-ODS and a mmWaveiceboost. I need to use the device to locate static objects inside a container, something like a mapping or to "see" the profile of the inner elements.

Mostly all the examples I found were related to moving objects and using mmWave Demo Visualizer, the X-Y Scatter plot is not correct at all. I have a lot of blinking points, attached is the configuration I'm using.

Is it possible to use mmWave as I intent to?

    We'll need more information in order to assist you. Would you be able to post both your x-y plot and range profile? A picture of your scene might also be helpful because it is difficult to discern what is truly going on here.

    Can you confirm you have static clutter removal turned off?

    Attached are the configuration and scene I have here.

    I'm testing with different antenna configuration, for our application the best option should be 60 degrees, but I got too much noise.

    In order to locate as much as possible I reduce the threshold but this didn't improved the measurements. The first element (gray plastic) is about 47 cm away from the sensor and the metal part is about 66 cm away. The distance from the sensor to the floor is about 1 meter.

    Thank you for doing this! I have learned that the mmWave Demo visualizer is not supported for IWR6843ISK-ODS, instead you must use the ODS Point Cloud Demo which is available on the TI Resource Explorer here.

    It uses different software which is available in the Industrial Toolbox, I'd recommend following the instructions in the User Guide.

    I took a look at the Industrial Toolbox, but testing the ODS Point Cloud Demo, like almost all of the demos in the industrial toolbox, is focused to locate moving objects, but not static ones.

    I need to make something like the profile of the content of a garbage container, should be a good thing to change CFAR and Doppler range thresholds like in the mmWave Demo Visualizer and deactivate the "Remove Static Clutter" options in the Real-Time tunning.

  • Hi Daniel,

    I would recommend turning off the static clutter removal in your profile Chirp Configuration. You will want to change the second term of the clutterRemoval parameters to a 0, which indicates that static clutter removal has been disabled.
