OPT3001: The conversion time and calibrate

Dear engineers,

There are some questions about the OPT3001.

1. The conversion time choices are 100 ms and 800 ms. We hope to get the correct light intensity when the system starts 50ms. Is there a way?

2. The data currently read deviates from the illumination intensity of the illuminometer, about 100 lux, need to be calibrated?

Hi Robin,

1) You will have to wait a minimum of 100ms after OPT3001 powers up for measurement.

2) Please check the link below for details on expected accuracy of our ALS devices. If your error is within the 10% then this is within spec and you would need to calibrate to get better accuracy. If the reading is over the 10% error then it may be an error in the test setup and we can look into this further.

Add the test information, The data is collected every 1 s, the light intensity increases evenly, but the data collected by 3001 is very slow. When the brightness changes little, the lumen value does not change, but the measured value of the illuminometer increases evenly.
In addition, the data reads slowly. The slowest situation takes nearly 8 seconds.

Hi Robin,

OPT readings will be ready every approx 100 or 800ms. If you are seeing much longer than I would check that you are reading data from the OPT device at the correct rate. Also you will want to use continuous conversion mode to get max rate. If you are using an EVM you should get the correct data rate. If you are using a custom board I would check the way you read data.

And The OPT3001 measured current is 100uA instead of the 1.8ua in Datasheet.
Now it is reading data once per second. If it is continuous conversion mode, will it increase power consumption?

Hi Robin,

This does not sound right. The current for continuous mode is spec'd in the datasheet under various conditions and the max is around 3.7uA.
