We at Shuubird LLC are searching for a sensor that will detect flocks of birds approaching vineyards and fruit crops. These unwanted birds decimate the young fruit ruining millions of dollars of crops across the nation.

We would like to find an optical, infrared, or heat sensor that will recognize these flocks, that arrive by the thousands, and forward that fact to a computer, letting us know to deploy our deterrent.

Hi Paul,

Have you looked at the TI millimeter wave Radar sensors? These sensors are based on FMCW Radar technology and provide a point cloud of the scene in front of the sensor where each point contains range, velocity and angle of arrival information of the targets in front of the sensor. Please look at the following resources to get more information about the technology and possible applications, including information such as what types of objects can be detected at what range, and see if this could a technology you should explore for your very unique application.

I have reviewed the three links you suggested and see that the best range for your sensor is 200 m.

We need a sensor that will see these unwanted flocks of birds at 1,000 meters or more, to have time to activate our deterrent system, and have these birds move on to better feeding acreage.

Hi Paul,

Achieving 1000m or more with a single mmWave sensor may not be possible given the Max TX power, antenna designs and the RCS (Radar Cross Section) of the object in question. For such ranges, low frequency-long range radar solutions might be an option.

I have reviewed the T.I website and do not see a list of sales representatives in the Florida area. The best I could come up with was "Florida, Alabama. Wendy Peel 972-690-2272".
