OPT3001: OPT3001_Calibration issue

Part Number: OPT3001
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPT3004

Hi Support Team,

We are using OPT3001 light sensor in our product. Product is in production phase now.
We have separate PCB for IR LEDs and on the same PCB we place ALS sensor. On the top of ALS sensor light pipe is there. Now the problem is that when we place any object very near to the ALS or keep finger on ALS LIGHT PIPE at that time IR LED continues ON/OFF repetitively.

Can you please tell me why this is happen?

Here I share the IR led part number also. TSHG6400 is the IR LED.

Waiting for your prompt support.

  • Hi Dhaval,

I assume expected behavior is that when light is lower (finger or object blocking light) the IR leds should turn on and stay on until light level is increased, correct? And this is for an IP camera or something like this?

If so, for this type of night vision application this sounds like there may be some of the IR light being detected by the OPT3001. This is the reason for our OPT3004 which is a drop in replacement for OPT3001 and adds improved IR rejection at angles. Are you able to check what OPT3001 is reading when the IR LED is turning on and off? Is it detecting light from the IR LEDs?

    Best,

    Alex

  • Hi Alex

    Thanks for replying.

Actually if you check the datasheet of OPT3001 and the IR  LED part  TSHG6400 both Spectral Response are different then how ALS OPT3001 is detect IR light. Also in IR LED s datasheet its Spectral Response is totally away from the OPT3001.

If you compare OPT3001 and OPT3004 then OPT3001 Spectral Response is batter then OPT3004.

    Hi Alex,

You can find the image of IR LED and ALS placement

  • Hi Dhaval,

Picture is not coming through. Could we take this to email? Please email me at bhandari at ti.com

I can give some more info then.

    Best,
