FDC2214EVM: FDC2214 versus FDC1004 component selection

Part Number: FDC2214EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC1004, FDC2214

Hello, For a new design i want to implement level sensor measurement. I try the FDC2214EVM and FDC1004 , what is our advice about the best solution to implement levele measurement. Do you have guideline for the electrode shape. My environement condition is the distance between the electrode and the tank is 5mm and the tank width is 2mm. Do you think is could be working as far as 7mm to detect level ? I am little be woried about the robustess? I need to comply with EMC. (I had a shield behind the electrode). Could you help me to find the best solution for my desing?

  • Hello Bernard,

If you are concerned about environmental disturbances like noise, the FDC2214 is a better fit. It is highly noise immune. If there is a possibility that humans or object would interact with the sensor, you may benefit from the active shielding that the FDC1004 provides. You can read about the different architectures in this blog post.

It is possible to use both devices for remote level sensing. We have an application note that discusses the pros and cons of remote sensing. The robustness will partly depend upon the size of your tank compared to the distance between the tank and the sensor.

We also have a TI Design that should help you with the electrode design.

    Best Regards,
