CCS/IWR6843: Increasing VitalSign measurement capability or accuracy.

Part Number: IWR6843

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

•Q2. in Demo, the only first chip in the frame has been used for processing, if I want to use two chirps, would it improve reliability or accuracy? And in performance respective, Can 6843 support two chirp processings?
•[TI answer] Multiple chirps in a frame can be averaged to increase the SNR. In terms of vital signs, multiple chirps might not significantly increase the reliability/accuracy.
Q1. in Demo, If distance range is set to 0.3~0.7, it detects a person in 0.5m and measures breathing and heart rate considerably very well. But, if we set distance 3.0~3.5 while a person is 3.2m far away, it detects worse than 0.5 m away case.
What could be the reason? Of course SNR would be worse and has more possibility of getting interference and environmental clutter.
Q2. If we know where he is , for example, he is located at 2.5m away(distance) with azimuth 5 degree(Angle), how can we increase possibility of measuring breathing rate and heart rate? By shrinking default FOV 30 degress to 10 degree or knowing his exact location(distance and angle), can we improve breathing rate measurement Quality?

  • Hi Kisub,

Q1. This is definitely a big part of it. Perhaps more notable is that there are so many more objects in your sensor's field of view so it makes accurate computation and estimation quite difficult.

Q2. Narrowing the field of view is going to be your best bet here, you can do that with an optical lens for mmWave. There are many manufacturers of them that you can find online, unfortunately I cannot recommend one or provide more information on them on this forum at this time.

    Cheers,
