IWR6843: Antenna pattern of IWR6843AoP

Part Number: IWR6843
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR1642BOOST,

Hi

  • Azimuth and elevation FOV antenna in IWR6843AoP is equal (+- 65 deg ). Does this mean that the direction of placement the IWR6843AoP is not important? We bought the IWR1642Boost. Azimuth and elevation FOV antenna in IWR1642Boost is not equal so direction of placement the IWR1642Boost is important.

  • Can I really track people with the IWR6843AoP  at a distance of 45 meters?
  • In my project there is a 11m wide entrance. If the IWR6843AoP is placed at a distance of 20 meters from the entrance door, can the number of people logged in and out at any moment be calculated? for example, if 10 people arrive  simultaneously.
  • How many people IWR6843AoP can detect at a single moment?

Thanks

  • Hi Masoud,

Thank you for your questions. I have asked an mmWave Expert to look into this and we should have a response for you sometime this week.

    Cheers,

    Akash

  • Hello,

    1) Yes, as compared to IWR1642Boost, IWR6843AOP has different antenna configuration, hence it has equal angular resolution both in Azimuth and Elevation direction.

    2) It's targeted, Detailed tests yet to be conducted.

    3) This could be challenge in terms of Angular separation. If the object falls in the same Range/Velocity but separated in different angle then due to position of antenna Angular resolution that we get is 28 degree in Azimuth and 28 Degree in Elevation. Hence separating 10 people at the same distance would be challenging, However if they are separated in range then it's bit more easier to separate it.

    4) Detail measurement on IWR6843AOP EVM is not yet available.

However, It's probabilistic you could look at the below link section 3.2.2.3 Test Scenario 3: People Counting Accuracy done on the IWR6843ISK EVM.
