MMWAVE-STUDIO: Cascade system

Part Number: MMWAVE-STUDIO

Hi,

I wanted to know how to use the "Trigger Select" option in SensorConfig tab and "Cascading mode" in StaticConfig tab from mmWave-studio? If I use two systems with running two mmWave studio, can I use one as master and another as slave?

Thanks,
Kshitiz

  • Hi,

Which mmwave Studio version are you using?

Do the release notes mention that cascade is supported?

    Thank you

    Cesar

  • Hi Kshitij,

I'm afraid the released version of mmWave Studio do not currently support cascaded systems.

    Best Regards,

    Anand

  • Hi Anand,

In that case, is there any other way we can get the cascade apparatus running? Somehow use the APIs directly? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Kshitiz

  • Hi Kshitiz,

We will be releasing an updated Studio in August along with our reference design.

I'm afraid until then you are on your own. All the APIs are already documented and there is example mmwavelink in the DFP package.

    Best Regards,

    Anand

  • Thank you Anand for the information.

The apparatus we have is 1243evm and DCA1000 for data capture. We want to use 2 of these as master/slave (without LO sync, only frame trigger sync). It seems mmwstudio does not have cascade capability, so how can we use DCA1000 with mmwavelink (as you suggested). Can we do something like configuring the 1243 evm with mmwavelink and then use some functionality of mmwave studio to configure data capture with DCA1000. Please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Kshitiz

  • Hi Kshitiz,

This does not require any cascade support from studio - these are essentialy two separate EVMs and you can use the existing mmwave studio to control them.

mmWave Studio currently does not support running multiple instances on a single computer - so you may need to control each EVM from a different computer.

Having done that, you could configure the two EVMs to use a hardware trigger and provide an external hardware trigger on the SYNC_IN pin to start each frame simultaneously on the two devices.

    Best Regards,

    Anand
