AWR1642BOOST: People Counting and Tracking Aplication

Dear Sir or Madam,

We would like to test this application with the radar sensor AWR1642BOOST andthe Lauchpad CC1352R1

"People Counting and Tracking Using mmWave Radar
Sensor With Sub-1 GHz Reference Design"

Please could you help us wiht following questions:

1) Are there any difference between the AWR1642BOOST and IWR1642BOOST.  Is the AWR board suitable for this apliccation

2) If ist possible to work with the AWR Board, we habe a question regarding the needed modifications for the people counting application.  There are not pins to solder the R26 (see picture).  It ist a white surface without pins.  How can we solve this problem?

    Hi Elena,

    AWR1642 and IWR1642 have identical architecture, software will work on both.

    Unfortunately, I cannot view your picture. R26 is a surface mount resistor, so there should be small solder balls which can be used. Has this board been modified in the past?

    thank you for your quick answer. Please look the picture of the page 16, from this ti paper:

    As I said, this picture show the resistor R26, which should be solder.

    Aditionally the picture oft he IWR Board (page 1). 

    As you can see in the picture of the board (page 1)  there are no no solder balls to solder the R26 in the original board. This resistor ist not only missing in  the picture but in the  printed circuit board AWR1642Boost.

    Regarding your question our board was never modified in the past. 

    We will apreciate if you can help us asap. Our Master students are working in the people counting project and they should be ready end of this month.

    Hi Elena,

    Are you comfortable adding solder to the board yourself?  You can find schematics on this page.

    Dear Justin,


    I think there is a misunderstanding. There is no problem adding welding to the board IWR1642Boost.


    The problem is related to the hardware modifications to test the application  People Counting and Tracking using the MMwave  radar
    sensors IWR1642Boost and CC1352 Launch Pad", that is recommended in this internet page.

    Please look at page 16 (Figure 18) and page 1 (Figure on the right side marked as Sensor Node).  Page 16 Fig.18 shows a resistor R26 in blue, which should be weld.  But if you look page 1 (Figure indicated before)  there are no welding balls for this resistor. There is only a flat white surface (left up part after the round white hole).  The same is happening when we see our board AWR1642Boost with no welding balls.  

    Please, Would you give us a solution to this problem?

    Hi Elena,

    You do need to solder R26.  However, please check the schematics on the EVM page I linked in my previous post. See the "Design Files" section. The images in the TID are not high enough resolution to fully show the detail of the schematic. See the picture below:

    R26 is in a box, there is an arrow pointing to the box. Unfortunately, there is not enough space for us to write the resistor names in the correct position in the layout, so we have drawn the layout in a manner such that we print the resistors in the order they appear on the board, but printed in a different location so as to not effect the accuracy of the layout drawing. R26 is really next to J1.

    Before modifying the board, please download the schematic and layout so you have a high quality layout document to work with.
