IWR6843: Average Power, Noise Figure Datasheet Parameters

Part Number: IWR6843
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR1642

Hi,

My customer is evaluating the IWR6843 device and has a few questions regarding a few of the current datasheet parameters.

  1. Table 5-3. Average Power Consumption at Power Terminals currently indicates TBD for all use-cases. Are there current estimates for these values or an estimated date when these will be available? The Table 5-2. Maximum Current Ratings at Power Terminals indicates rather high maximum currents, so average power use-cases would be very helpful for further device consideration.
  2. Section 5.7 RF Specification has an entry for Receiver Noise Figure for 60 to 64 GHz. Are there any details for how this parameter has been measured?
    1. Are there any measurements done of VCO leakage parameters? This is to be used in comparing to an existing 24GHz system. Due to the integration of the IWR6843 device, this may no longer apply but any details surrounding its impact would be appreciated as other posts (here and here) seem to indicate there is some cancellation effect.
  3. Are there plans to sell pre-certified modules for the IWR6843 family of devices (from third-party or direct)?

Thank you for your insights!

Best Regards,

Mark-

  • Hello,

         1) Currently, it is (Average Power Consumption at Power Terminals, Maximum Current Ratings) planned during end of 3rd Quarter. As a guidance value you could use power target provided in IWR1642 device datasheets.

         2) Noise figure measurement are done on a conducted measurement setups using wave-guides, Assessing accurately tone power level at the LNA input and comparing measurement at the ADC output. Front end (LNA, mixer, IF stage) noise figure dominates as compared to Phase noise noise component coming from Local oscillator system. As mentioned in the post,  In FMCW radar system LO phase noise component would get cancelled out as same transmitter LO would be used for the receiver mixer; And reflected signal also comes from same LO but delayed due to two round trip path delays, Hence it would get cancelled out at the mixer and only delayed signal would come out as IF signal.

       3) Currently there is no plan to sell pre-certified modules for the IWR6843 family of devices from TI. You may want to check with TI partners.

    Thanks and regards,
