what is the minimum distance I can measure? I would like to measure down to less than 1mm. How do I configure the board and software to do this?

In a general note the TDC1000 when used in conjecture with a MCU can measure ToF in the ranges of ns.

Also the actual ability to measure such small distances also depends on the transducer that one plans to use. Please check with the transducer supplier if that particular transducer can measure small distances, since the ringing time of the transducer can affect its ability of sense the return signals.

Please let me know your application, setup & transducer you plan to use. Also please refer the the different modes of operation of this device from the TDC1000 datasheet.
