CCS/IWR1642BOOST: People Counting algorithm

Part Number: IWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR1642

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Dear,

I am a member of the elevator insdusty. I saw a article on WeChat that introduced people counting based on mmWave technology applied to elevator system for group control.

I am very interested in it. So I bought a IWR1642Boost EVM for developemt. I also concluded the people counting demo code flow char and data struture which the file is attached.

My questions are as below:

1)What parameters in people counting demo code need to be modified to help more accurately count the number of people based on millimeter wave sensor technology applied in elevators scenarios?

2)How to modify people tracking algorithm to adapt to elevator scenarios?

3)According to the introduction of the website, the technology can also detect the speed and position of elevators. Generally  speaking, the leveing accuracy of elevator should be within a few millimeters.

Can the mmWave technology achieve the accuracy goal?

4)Can discuss the differences between the group control algorithm based on people counting and the traditional one?

Thank you.

BGs.

  • Hi Wang,

    1. Please see the customization guide on TI Resource Explorer in the People Counting folder. It is accurate for IWR1642.

    2. TI has not done significant testing in elevator scenarios. I recommend ensuring the sceneryparams described in the customization guide are set properly.

    3. Yes. Please see the High Accuracy demo.

    4. I am not quite sure what you are asking about. Are you asking about the elevator control algorithm?

    Regards,

    Justin

  •  Dear Justin,

    Thanks for your replying.

    1) As for the Q3, according to the introducing the parameters from Elevator Position and Velocity Sensing in mmWave Sensros ChirpDatabasethe in TI Resource Explorer, the RANGE RESOLUTION is 0.4m,

and the RANGE ACCURACY is 0.073m. These parameters accturelly are hard to meet the requirement of  leveling for a elevator. So, can provide a link or reference for the High Accuracy Demo you mentioned?

Traditionally, elevator velocity and velocity is sensed by rotary encoder and permanent magnet inductor. Compared with traditional solution, what are the advantages using the mmWave sensing?

    2) Acctrually, I want to ask for a discusion with you these mmWave professional technicians that  analyze the feasibility of applying mmWave technology to elevator in term of cost, perfomance and so on.

  • Hi Wang,

For 2), please contact a local TI representative.

For 1), I believe different configurations are possible.  Can you open a new thread specifically for the high accuracy lab topic?

    Regards,

    Justin

  • Dear Justin,

I have contacted  TI Shanghai Branch, Shanghai R&D Center and customer service (400-819-8694). Meanwhile, a case was created by TI customer support center for my these questions. Unfortunately, I do not find someone to discuss these questions that I asked in here a few days ago. At last, I was suggested that asked for help in here. So, Could you please provide a contact information related to mmWave in china, perferably in Shanghai? Thanks you.

    Regards,

    Wang
